Civil Lines is one of Delhi's oldest planned residential areas, dating to the British era, and retains a spacious, low-density feel rare in the city's northern half. Wide roads, heritage bungalows and mature trees set it apart from the congested lanes of neighbouring Old Delhi. The area houses the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor's office, St. Stephen's Hospital and several government residences.
